Former Stockton Mayor Anthony Silva avoids jail time, as he was charged with felony conflict of interest and can substitute an alternative work program for incarceration. Stockton Criminal Defense Attorney Allen Sawyer represented Silva and is responsible for the successful outcome.
It was five months after pleading “no contest” to a conflict-of-interest charge when former Stockton Mayor Anthony Silva was formally sentenced in San Joaquin County Superior Court to the following sentence: three years’ probation, 90 days in jail, and a fine of more than $19,000 in restitution. Stockton criminal defense attorney Allen Sawyer worked on Silva’s behalf. As a result, Judge Orcutt has agreed to allow Silva and exchange of jail time for 45 days served in the San Joaquin County Sheriff Office’s alternative work program.
The conclusion of this case brings an end to the three-year financial misconduct white-collar defense case against the Silva. In May, the former mayor accepted a plea deal that included the removal of several charges against him, including embezzlement, grand theft, and money laundering. These charges were all in connection with the Kids Club of Stockton. At the same time, Anthony Silva pled “no contest” to one conflict-of-interest charge, which relates to Silva’s decision to, prior to leaving office in 2013, direct $5,000 of public money from a mayoral discretionary fund to the Kids Club of Stockton.
Allen Sawyer worked tirelessly on this case. In the end, the former Stockton Mayor Anthony Silva avoids jail time and received a much lighter sentence. For the full story, please refer to the press release on this legal matter:
